Due to aging and the help of gravity; our eyelids sag and gather fat above or below our eyelids. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is performed to ensure a younger appearance. Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) is performed under local anesthesia to remove excess skin and fat at our eyelids.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper Eyelid Surgery is performed under local anesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours. The incision will be within the natural crease on the eyelid and therefore, the scar will not be noticed in later periods. We remove or reposition the fat deposits, tighten the muscles and remove the excess skin from this incision. After the surgery, we place a band covering the stitch lines on the eyelids. After the surgery, you will be discharged and after 1 day youe can continue your daily activities easily.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower Eyelid Surgery is performed under local anesthesia and takes about 1 to 2 hours. The incision will be  just below the lower lash line and therefore, the scar will be less noticeable after several weeks and after one year will not be noticed. We remove or reposition the fat deposits, tighten the muscles and remove the excess skin from this incision. After the surgery, we place a band covering the stitch lines on the eyelids. After the surgery, you will be discharged and after 1 day youe can continue your daily activities easily. Although I would like to give information about lower eyelid surgery briefly, we may choose a different treatment method after your examination.

Recovery After Eyelid Surgery

After Eyelid Surgery, some bleeding over the bands is expected. During the first 2 days, increasing swelling and bruising around the eye will occur. To prevent this, we will continue the ice application for a while. Use your prescribed anti-bruise creams as directed.

You will have 3rd and 7th day check-ups after the lower eyelid surgery in doctor’s clinic. On the 3rd day check-up, your dressing will be changed. After 7th day check-up, you are free to fly.

You will have 4th or 5th day check-up after the upper eyelid surgery in doctor’s clinic. On the check-up, your dressing will be changed. Then, you are free to fly.

The more we spend our rest time lying upright(sitting), the less swelling and bruising will be. For 2 months, we will protect ourselves from the sun as much as possible. In the meantime, avoid the sauna and heavy sports that trigger the increase of swelling.

We will decide the issue of makeup together after your check-ups.

Risks After Eyelid Surgery

  • Bleeding
  • Blurred vision
  • Watering eyes
  • Can’t close eyes during sleeping (first several days)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does the eyelid surgery leave any scars?

In upper eyelid surgery, the incision will be within the natural crease on the eyelid and in lower eyelid surgery, the incision will be  just below the lower lash line. Scars from these incisions will  not be seen when the eyes are open, because scars will be within the natural crease on the eyelid. The eyelid skin is so thin and heal fast, therefore at 6th month the scars will not be seen even the eyes are closed.

On the lower eyelid; scars remaining red for about 2 months, and start to fade at the 6th month. However, since there is no natural crease in this area, a white scar like a line can be observed when looked very carefully.

  • Will my eyes remain open after upper eyelid surgery?

After the upper eyelid surgery, there is no such thing as the eyes will remain open. The amount of skin to be removed on the upper eyelid is determined by drawing before the operation when the eyelid is closed.
