Nose Surgery
Nose Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about 2 to 3 hours. If cartilage graft is taken from another part of your body, it takes more. A large nose may be reduced by removing bone or cartilage. If the septum is deviated, it can be straightened.
Procedures of Nose Surgery
A nose surgery is performed by two different procedures called open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty, according to where incisions made.
Open Rhinoplasty
It is the procedure applied by making a half-centimeter incision from the lower end of the nose where two nostrils meet. In Open Rhinoplasty, the nasal skin can be removed completely and the bone and cartilage can be easily operated. It is my preferred procedure.
Closed Rhinoplasty
It is the procedure applied by making incisions inside the nose. In Closed Rhinoplasty, reaching to the bone and cartilage is limited. After the surgery, the scars remain inside the nose and can’t be seen. It is preferred if there is an access to the operated area.
Pain After Nose Surgery
Pain is not expected.
Recovery After Nose Surgery
After surgery, we are putting special silicone packs into the nose. These silicone packs also provide great comfort to both the patient and the doctor, at the removal of them. We put a plastic splint on the nose to protect the nose integrity. After the surgery you will stay one night at the hospital. In this way, your follow-up is done by nurses, and you will have more comfortable first night with pain killers that provided by the hospital. Next morning you will be discharged from the hospital after my checks. Some temporary swelling or black-and-blue discoloration of your eyelids can occur after the surgery. To avoid this, we use ice treatment and anti-bruising cream. After surgery, crust and edema occur in the nose. This makes it difficult to breathe. To avoid this, we prescribe nasal spray and cream.
You will have 3rd and 7th day check-ups after the surgery in doctor’s clinic. On the 1st day in the hospital or on the 3rd day in the doctor’s clinic, your silicone packs will be removed. On the 7th day, your plastic splint will be removed and if there are stiches, they will be removed. After 7th day check-up, you are free to fly.
After surgery, we protect our nose against any impact from outside. For a while, we take a break sports and using eyeglasses. At night, rest in bed with your head raised higher than your chest. The results of rhinoplasty surgery will be long-lasting. Because of that the longer we take care of our nose, we will have better results. Don’t let anyone to remove your packs and splint. Protect your nose from sun for a while. Use sunscreen when you’re outside.
